Fall Car Care Tips

Fall Car Care Tips in Gainesville, FL

Planning a trip up north this autumn? If so, you'll want to make sure your car is prepared for cooler weather and shorter daylight hours. Now's the perfect time to schedule a service appointment, so follow these four tips to get your vehicle ready for fall!

Top 4 Fall Tips

1. Tire Tread and Pressure

Did you know that tires can lose one pound of pressure for every 10-degree Fahrenheit drop?  Refer to your owner's manual to find out the correct tire pressure for your vehicle. If your car has summer tires, consider changing them out for all-season tires. To check the tread, simply place a penny into the tread grooves. If Lincoln's head is completely visible, your treads are less than the recommended 2/32” of tread depth (according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and should be replaced.

2. Battery

It's important to make sure your battery is able to handle the cold. Check that the battery connections are tight, clean and free of corrosion. To make sure it's performing properly, we recommend that you run a battery test. If your battery is older than three years, it may need to be replaced.

3. Heating and Cooling

Don't forget to check your car's heating and cooling functions. When the temperature drops, you'll be grateful that they're working correctly, not just for you and you passengers' comfort, but also for your safety, like when you need to defrost the windows.

4. Lights

Since you'll be required to use your lights more often due to fewer daylight hours, check to make sure all of your lights are working, and replace any that aren't. Don't forget about the brake lights and turn signals!
