2016 Lincoln MKZ

Serving Gainesville, Ocala, Lake City, Alachua, and Williston

The debut of the MKZ in 2006 helped Lincoln to herald in a new generation, and helped to revive the brand. Now, almost a decade on, the MKZ was ready for a refresh - and it most certainly got one. The 2016 MKZ is an all-new vehicle, with changes in exterior design and interior features.

The base 3.7-liter engine certainly provides plenty of power for road trips to Chiefland, incredibly confident on the highway even with a full load of passengers and cargo. The MKZ is not hesitant at all, which is also helpful in urban driving. If a buyer is looking for a bit more power, the 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 is the answer. With 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque on hand, this is more than enough for daily driving. The six-speed automatic is the only available transmission, while both front- and all-wheel drive are available.

The exterior calls to mind a slightly larger version of the MKC that has been on the road for a few years now. This goes from the split-wing grille and hood strakes, back to the clamshell tailgate. The proportions are even more complimentary on the slightly larger MKZ - this includes the prominent front and rear fenders. 18-inch wheels are standard, with 20- and 21-inch wheels available.

A mid-size crossover SUV, the 2016 MKZ has seating for 5, with generous measurements. Shoulder room is 59 inches throughout, great for any vehicle, while there is more than 39 inches of head room in both the front and rear seats. This extra space doesn't come at the cost of carrying capacity either, with 37.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, and 68.8 cubic feet if the second row is folded down. This is more than enough room to haul five passengers and gear up to Jacksonville for a Jags game or a student and their gear to the University of Florida in Gainesville.

The MKZ comes in three different trim levels. The base trim, called Premiere, comes with soft touch leatherette seating surfaces, upgraded to Bridge of Weir leather-trimmed seat on the Select and Reserve trims. All models come with heated, 10-way-adjustable front seats, although the Reserve upgrades to heated and cooled front seats, as well as offering optional 22-way multi-contoured front seats. Heated second-row seats are optional on the Select and Reserve trims, but not available on the Premiere trim.

Dual-zone automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are standard on all models, while a heated steering wheel is available on the Select and Reserve models only. All models come with full power accessories and remote start. The steering column is manual tilt and telescoping on the Premiere trim, but powered on the upper level trims.

Each 2016 Lincoln MKZ starts with a 10-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system, which also has an auxiliary input jack and two USB ports. SiriusXM Satellite radio is also standard, while the SYNC system featuring MyLincoln Touch is also in every edition of the MKZ. Optional audio systems include a 13-speaker Revel audio system featuring HD radio, as well as the 19-speaker Revel Ultima audio system. The former is an option on the Select and Reserve trims, while the latter is only available on the Reserve trim.

A voice-activated navigation system is standard on the Reserve trim, and it has integrated SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link apps. This is aired with an onboard modem. The navigation system is an option on the Select trim, but the modem is not. If you're planning on going on a long trip, well past Lake City, you might want to opt for the dual headrest DVD entertainment system that is available on all trims.

Safety is not optional - that's why the MKZ features a number of safety features as standard equipment. Beyond the standards, such as airbags, traction control and stability control, a rear view camera is standard across the model line. The Lincoln Personal Safety System puts together airbags, seat belt pretensioners, a crash severity sensor, the restrain control module and a Front-Passenger Sensing System to optimize the response of the safety systems in the case of an accident. Adaptive cruise control is available on the Reserve, while lane keep assist, blind spot assist, and cross-traffic alert are all optional as well.

* MSRP excludes taxes, destination charges, optional equipment, registration, and dealer charges.

** EPA estimated MPG may vary by transmission, trim and individual driving behavior.
