For the 2016 model year the Lincoln MKX has undergone a complete redesign making it one of the most popular mid-size luxury crossover SUVs in the Gainesville, FL area. The MKX offers a quiet luxurious interior, a wealth of the latest technology and features, and an optional turbocharged V6 with power to spare. On the other hand the Buick Enclave is a middle of the road mid-size crossover that offers a reasonable amount of luxury with plenty of interior space. Our comparison is intended to show you why we believe the 2016 MKX is the better choice.

When it comes to performance at the base level, both the 2016 Lincoln MKX and the Buick Enclave offer very similar acceleration and overall fuel economy, with the Lincoln coming out only slightly ahead. This means that you will spend approximately the same amount of time and money at the pump over the course of ownership. However, the MKX can also be ordered with a 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 under the hood.

This powerful V6 develops 335 horsepower and delivers 380 lb-ft of torque to the six-speed shiftable automatic transmission. All models of the MKX come standard with front wheel drive but can also be ordered as all-wheel drive to better handle the year round driving conditions in and around Gainesville. When properly equipped the Lincoln MKX can tow up to 3,500 pounds. The Buick is only offered with a single engine and transmission combination, but is also available in front and all-wheel drive.

The luxurious interior of the MKX offers significantly more space than the Enclave with far more head and leg room for those sitting in the rear seat. However, the Enclave does offer a little more head and legroom in the front, which might appeal to taller drivers and front seat passengers. The MKX offers a leather-wrapped dash and a range of trim pieces to choose from that can be used to customize the interior to suit individual tastes.

The 2016 Lincoln MKX features the MyLincoln Touch infotainment system with an eight-inch touchscreen. Along with this comes full Bluetooth interconnectivity for smartphone calling, texting, and streaming your favorite music. The base Premier level MKX comes with a 10-speaker audio system featuring a CD player, satellite radio, two USB ports, and an auxiliary input connection. At the top of the line Black Label trim level the audio system comes from Revel Ultima and includes a total of 19 surround sound speakers and HD radio.

No one has a better reputation for safety than Lincoln and Buick. Both the MKX and Enclave come with a host of standard safety features including four wheel antilock brakes, electronic traction and stability controls, and airbags designed to protect everyone in the event of a collision. The MKX also comes standard with integrated blind spot mirrors, a rearview camera, side curtain and front side airbags, and rear parking sensors.

Optional safety features include blind spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring and alert, the Driver Assistance package with lane departure warning and intervention, forward collision warning and mitigation with automatic braking, and a driver drowsiness alerting system.
